Setting: DC Comics Rebirth: Prime Earth
-- Superhumans, aliens, magic, etc, all exist.
-- Some people decided to become vigilantes to fight crime and Save The Day, so superheroes also exist.
-- Cataclysmic events happen on the regular that shake up the universe, rewrite time, and alter the fabric of reality.
-- Rebirth was one of these rewrites of time and reality. Prime Earth is the main setting of Rebirth.
-- The Justice League is a group of superheroes working together to protect the earth and the universe. Big name heroes like Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, etc are part of the Justice League to varying degrees at different times. Other groups also exist.
-- Supervillains out there ruining things for everyone also exist.
-- Magic is a very relative and fluctuating concept in the Rebirth setting as different types of magic and supernatural power exist and compete or complement each other.
-- Hell is real and another realm that Earth is connected to. Demons, Fallen Angels, and other infernal Hosts (powerful damned beings) exist and have attacked Earth at various points in time.
-- Gotham, New Jersey is one of the most well known cities in the US and it's full of crime and Rogues that cause mayhem on a regular basis. Batman has declared himself the protector of Gotham, while also being a billionaire businessman Bruce Wayne during the day.
-- Bludhaven is Gotham's sister city that is even more crime-infested and underfunded but not as big.
-- The Court of Owls is a folklore legend and a real organization. They have controlled Gotham from the shadows for generations, using their power and influence to maintain their status in the city and create Talons, undead assassins who carry out their bidding. Most people in Gotham do not know the Court of Owls is real, but they have likely heard the nursery rhyme warning children to behave or the Court will get them.
-- Oscar is someone with magic, but not directly connected to people in the major setting in that way. He knows some people, but no one of major influence in the world.

Background:
-- Oscar's father was killed and their restaurant burned to the ground when he was five. It is believed this was in retaliation for his mother testifying against a local gang leader. His mother moved the family out of LA to a quiet town in Colorado.
-- He dealt with his trauma by getting into a lot of trouble as a teen, getting kicked out of college his sophomore year, then running off with some girl Alison to Bludhaven when his mom told him he needed help to get his life together.
-- Said road trip took him right into the hands of a determined if inept and inexperienced fledgling cult in Bludhaven (The Red Jury) that intended to use him as a sacrifice to a Demon that they planned to call forth and ask to give them power.
-- Turned out that Oscar was someone with an open magical void inside of him, meaning that he could be used as a vessel for any kind of magic. Alison had the power to sense magic and when she saw him she realized he didn't feel like he had no magic ability so much as he was an empty container that hadn't been filled with magic yet.
-- Oscar was still bound to him, the tattoo of a collar appearing around his neck to bind Maenotos' control over him and a scar on his face showing he'd been touched by him.
-- He managed to get away and eventually met a magician who explained that he was permanently bound to Maenotos, unless he wanted to chance dying. If he tried to remove the binding spell on his neck it would allow Maenotos to completely control his body. At this point he had access to his power, but Maenotos could not fully control him.
-- So he decided to get his shit together...somewhat. He went back to the magician he'd met, Lilian, and she directed him to what he needed to do and she explained to him how his "empty vessel" thing worked and how he could use that to his advantage. If he taught himself other magic, filling up his "container" he could use it to keep Maenotos' influence at bay because he wouldn't have an urge to use it.
-- 8 years later he's living a quiet life, mostly. He sometimes gets dragged into supernatural shit in New York, and has met some other magic-connected people in the city, and even had to tap into Maenotos' power once to take out some fiends who had anti-magic protections but no protections against demon magic. He might have saved the family they had been summoned to kill because some crazy guy wanted revenge on the ex who dumped him ten years ago, but it also opened the link he had kept firmly closed for years.
-- Now he can feel Maenotos, the draw of his power and has nightmares at times where he speaks to him, but Oscar is so not wanting to deal with that shit. It has worn him down, made him a little tired and less amicable on the worst days, but in general he's doing his best. Best thing he can do and as long as he calls his mom regularly, he doesn't feel like as much of a failure at life.

Personality:
Oscar tries to be chill but a lot of the time he comes across as Tired. Between working multiple jobs to afford living in NYC (and losing them) and dealing with Supernatural Shit he didn't ask for on the regular (which causes him to lose said jobs), he's got a lot on his plate. Shit has been rough, but he's making do and surviving. He even has some people he would call friends? Sort of. Some of them are more People I Talk To At A Diner and others are People I Sit Next To On The Subway Three Days A Week. But hey, close enough. It's a simple life when he's not Dealing With Shit and that's the most he wants.

He wouldn't call himself a hero, because he's not some vigilante out there saving the day out of some misplaced Savior Complex. He does it because it comes to his door, or his feet, or right outside his favorite diner. Shit happens and he can't not do anything when it's happening right there near him. Sometimes Lilian will send people his way for help because she's a troll who loves to fuck with him, but he owes her a lot so he lets it go. But he definitely does not see any of what he does as heroic. He doesn't really take credit for a lot of his positive attributes and generally has a negative view of himself. He's just casual about it.

He's a huge momma's boy. He loves his mother above everything. Losing his father really messed him up as a child, and he struggled with that, but his mother has always been there for him even when he wasn't in the right place to see it. He's living in a rundown apartment building owned by a friend of Lilian so he does have some leeway (yeah, he really, really owes her), but in the end his mom gets top billing of priority. The only reason he hadn't moved back home in the beginning is because he was afraid what happened to him might somehow come back on his family if he stuck close.

Oscar can be self-destructive and makes bad life choices all the time. He's gotten his life more on track, but making decisions that are good for him all the time is not something he knows how to do. It would require him thinking critically instead of just living in the moment and thinking too critically means thinking about the hows and whys of who he is and he's someone who really likes to avoid thinking about that. Therapy? Never met her.

Powers/Nerfing:
Oscar is a magically inclined person but instead of having his own innate magic, he's a vessel. He can take in any kind of magic and learn it or absorb magical energy and redirect it. His magical aura is blank. He has a lot of power, but nothing connected to it, which makes it very easy for him to learn various forms of magic although he can't use them all at the same time. He's limited to how much he can do because otherwise he overwhelms himself and Maenotos' demonic energy might start leaking through. Typically he uses seal-related spells and carries magical artifacts (charms, pendants, dust, etc) that help him to control and direct magic he absorbs into himself.

To nerf his abilities I would say not cutting off his connection to Maenotos completely, but keeping it limited. The seal should remain in case any future event might potentially lead to crossover with his setting and Maenotos' power being more important, but it staying limited and mostly untouchable works for me.

The rest of his abilities, I would say that there is a limit to how much magic he can absorb and he can't absorb magic from other characters without them giving it willingly. I also think he can only perform one spell at a time and he uses more magic for each spell so he would need to recharge himself to perform more magic in Restoria. The stronger the magic he absorbs, the harder time he'll have absorbing it.

Canon OC Suitability:
Oscar is not connected directly to any main character in the DC Prime Earth setting. He has some awareness of them, as superheroes and celebrities, and names he's been told while learning about magic (such as John Constantine and Zatanna Zatara), but he hasn't met those people. He's been involved in his own side of the magical community and generally likes to avoid those big name people because they bring trouble. All the people mentioned here are OCs that have no direct relation to canon characters besides living in the same city.

House: Stone

Inventory:
-- Charm Bag that allows him to have some protections against negative energy (and helps to keep Maenotos' influence under control).
-- Cleansing Stone that helps him expel the magic he's absorbed in a safe diffusing way to avoid it harming those around him. Leaves him completely empty of magic.
-- Seal Pendant necklace that helps him to focus seal magic that he wears around his neck.
-- The clothes on his person, wallet, etc.
